i have a coolant leak from a electrical connection half way down the radiator on the rigth hand side as you look down into the engine bay. I believe its the fan switch, thermal switch.
Should i replace the switch or just get some sealer round the swtich to stop it?

if the switch still works..
Take it out, clean it up... make sure it and the housing are not cracked and then re-install it with a new sealing ring from VW...
Or just replace the switch anyway whilst its out...

ok i've looked on ETKA and the switch has no seal so all i can do is take it out and replace it.
Is there anything i can do to stop the leak other than this?

Take it out, wrap the thread in something like blue hylomar sealant and put it back in. That should stop it!

another question, what size socket is needed to get hold of the thing, looks like its an impact socket job as well?

It shouldnt be an impact socket mate - thats for doing up wheel nuts and what not. Its probably a 20/22/23/ I cant remember from memory, but a decent spanner or pair of grips will do it

the radiator housing sits right over the bloody sensor so i thought i could unclip and get the socket on. A spanner wont fit on due to the housing but the grippers should i reckon.
This should be the last job i have to for a bit, thank god!
