1.0l mpi MPG
1.0l mpi MPG
as the topic states what type of real life mpg should I expect from a 1.0l mpi engine, cos currently I am doing around 8.5l/100km (with 18 litres in the tank I covered around 220km) and I think that it it too much for a stupidly slow engine like this when reading that the new 2.0 tsi does it in 6.5l/100km!! I am not the most economic driver though but still it looks like too much!! and is it real that a 1.4mpi would return better economy because it would have to work less than a struggling 1.0mpi?

Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
I used to get over 400 miles a tank out of my old 1.0MPI and that was rather respectable I thought!
Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
so I found out that a tank is approximately 40l (actually 45l but I doubt it would be full to the brim) and 400miles are 640km. that is equal to 6.25l/100km ! much more respectable then mine ... is there something I can do?! I have recently changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, the air filter is clean and saw no gain in economy. could the lower octane fuel here in malta blame for that?

Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
Lower octane fuel could cause a poor economy but its not common. How many miles do you get out of a tank?
Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
i get 38 mpg average in my 1.0 6n2. I run 99 octane, almost all motorway, and never go below 3500 revs!!!
Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
ehhh never filled a full tank . here in malta the octane is lower than the manufacturer recommendation of 95RON!! its around 87RON!! fu*ken fuel company we got here on this rock!!alexperkins wrote:Lower octane fuel could cause a poor economy but its not common. Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
with some calculations I found that mine goes around 34.6mpg so that would most probably be the octane problem because it has to struggle more for power to compensate for the lower octane . is there anything mechanical that can be done to improve it?8080 wrote:i get 38 mpg average in my 1.0 6n2. Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
although I have just read that if the engine is not knocking(because of low octane) increasing the octane level will be of no use. so I think that 99 octane is a little to much for a low compression engine like ours
Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
i run standard petrol do no motorway driving and rev to around 3000rpm every time
im gettin garound 46mpg when i put in 30 pounds

Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
wow that is nothing near to what I get!! I have just calculated again and mine does 36.6 mpg! how are you actually calculating the mpg?
Re: 1.0l mpi MPG
basically i put in £30 of petrol this was 25.77litres
divide this by 4.5 gives me 5.72 gallons
then i did 250 miles on this petrol until the light came on again 250/5.72 gives me 43.7
