hi was checking my engine out and i found this pipe was ripped, anybody know what it is for and maybe a part number as i better get it replaced


really would appreciate any help, cheers

(engine is a 1.4 8v, the pipe is only 6 inches long and goes to the bottom of the throttle body)

don't take my word but I think that thats a vacuum hose pipe so might as well change it with a regular vacuum hose you buy from car garages. if I may ask how was it working if that was torn?

lol i dont have a clue, but the throttle body gets very dirty quickly, it gets covered in oil. i do start getting issues with performance and start ups, hopefully changing this will help

covered in oil? are you sure the right hose pipe fitted to the airbox (thin one) is fitted in place? I don't think that your split hose has anything to do with oil...not sure though!

yep the airbox vacuum hose is in place, i looked inside the airbox and its all clean, theres just oil on the throttle body and around the seal where it connects to the airbox

ah then it is most probably the oil vapour from the crank case. I fitted a breather filter but then it started doing strange noises! But I ll check if there is oil again in the throttle body and seal, just like in your situation

yeh, havent got a clue what it is, after i clean the throttle body the car runs great, but it gets dirty so quickly, so i just popped down to TPS and ordered a new pipe and a few other goodies including a splitter

probably a stupid question but... lol how do you clean the throttle body ?. when i get my car back out the garage ima do it to see if it runs any smoother

some peeps take the throttle body off n clean it (probably better) but all i did was take the airbox off and spray the carb cleaner straight into the throttle body and around the inside of it with the engine running at about 2000rpm

heres the cleaner i used

just did it a few days back ... unplug the cable and all pipes ( make sure to mark them to remember where they should go) undo the 4 nuts holding it and pull it out ( make sure not to drop anything in the intake). use a carburettor/throttle body cleaner spray and spray it with it and wipe it with a clean lint free cloth. make sure you do not use any thing else as the butterfly is covered in a special coating so not to hold dirt on it an you could remove it. let it dry and do everything in reverse order. It is advisable you do a TBA using vagcom afterwards.

it is not very advisable to clean it on place as you will be dropping all the dirt in the intake apart from not cleaning the underneath of the throttle body properly

i think il take it off tomorrow and give it a proper clean before i change that pipe

had a look at mine, still looks pretty clean after the last time I had it cleaned (after I had the crank case breather hose removed from the air box)

wow that looks gleaming, how come you removed the crank case breather hose from the airbox?

because it was filling the airbox and throttle body with oil vapour!! so I come to a conclusion that even the MAF sensor and injectors are now dirty because when I removed the throttle body the intake manifold had a thin layer of oil and dirt!!
