blowing bulbs

in the last wee ive had to change the reverse bulb twice and the heater control light (manual) and they keep blowing and im lost as to where to look to cure the problem

Check the output voltage from your alternator. Rev the engine up to 3500 revs and get a multimeter on the battery. it should be no more than 14.4V

My heater control light ALSO blew this week... the one i've replaced it with seems a little bit too bright though. The centre dial keeps getting warm

Get a new one from VW - thatll fix it and they arent expensive!

in reference to nigel, due to it being too bright and creating too much heat lol
Your problem sounds deeper, unless you are using cheap bulbs with weak filaments that just break easily.
