Springs and Shocks

ok so i want to get some springs after deciding not to get coilovers yet and wait til the end of the year or early next year and get a mid to high range kit. so for now iv decided to settle for some springs, im swayed by the Eibach springs, same as those on Mboyles gti. but his looks quite low for 50mm on standard shocks
so the question is does the gti have shorter shocks than a regular 6n2?
if so does anyone have some standard GTi shocks taking up space in their homes ?

why not go for a whole kit mate like this for example if you are on budget :

the rears are also most probably adjustable as stated in the description so you can go lower then 40mm ... "Most rear dampers benefit from a 5 point platform adjustment allowing you to alter the height on the rear"

the eibach springs i was after are only £105 and that supersport kit drops the car roughly the same amount for an extra £100, it probably is better in terms of handling and quality, but i just wanted something temporary to make it sit a bit lower for now as i plan on upgrading in the future anyway.

The eibach sportline's will deffinatly give your polo a nice drop mate, if its only a temporary thing until you get coilovers they would certainly do the job. Infact I think you'd be so impressed you may not even want the coilovers in the end. All depends how low you wana go though I suppose. In terms of ride quality I think you would have to spend a decent amount on coilovers to beat the eibach springs, I suppose ride qualitys not a factor to some people though as they just want to go as low as possible

Yeh i dont really want to deal with scraping sumps and exhausts and driveshafts, or excessive tyre rubbing and all that. besides the roads over here aint too great either, so i think il be more than happy if it looks anything like yours and retains its comfort too. Plus paired with mudflaps it might look that bit lower.
im not a copycat...honest!

ha ha, I think the mudflaps are a nice touch and they do add to the lower look slightly

can you geet away with sticking 50ml springs on the srandard shocks or do you have to change the shocks too?

i've heard up to 50 is ok, but 60 or over will damage the shocks, i could be wrong

bet even 50mm will damage the shocks, thats why I would prefer a whole kit instead

Im on standard shocks with the eibach sportline springs and Ive not had any problems at all, I dont intend changing the shocks either unless I eventually do get problems. I suppose if money was no object the correct thing to do would be to change both the springs and shocks

It all depends what your looking for, if you want it just to look lower then go for lowering springs but if you want looks & performance then go for coilovers.
The Polo 6N2 is really poor at handling, even the GTI is very poor and that's why I opted for Coilovers, good looks and great handling in the corners.
To answer your original questions the GTI has different shocks as standard and is 15mm lower than a normal 6N2 Polo.
The standard shocks will just about cope with the Eibach sportline springs but I would personally uprate the shocks too if your going down 40-45mm.

i do want coilies but i dont want to settle for a cheap set at the mo and id rather wait til next year and get a good set, depending on the circumstances. so il settle for the springs and see how they go, and maybe upgrade the shocks too in the summer time if i need to/run into problems
