cracked head gasket!

Hello guys!
I've been doing a bit of reading up. My 9n3 gti stage 1 is supposed to be running 225bhp. Am i right in saying running this power with a standard exhaust has been a highly contributing factor to tha head going on me? anyone had this problem?
