looking for a monster scrappy :) (and on and on and ariston)

If i'm in brum, and i'm looking for somewhere nice and big where i'm likely to find polos lying around (its got to be big, face it, the only way to kill them scrapyard-dead is to write 'em off panel-mangling style, so the place has to have enough capacity to catch one or two amongst the hundreds of escorts)....... wheres within an hours drive or so?
I saw Monster Garage on the telly last night (turning a Supra into a lawnmower - quite an improvement

) and the place their guvnor went looking for V8's looked a fair bit bigger than the type of establishment that advertises in the local yellow pages. Could do with some of that.
Just being shocked at the prices being quoted by the organised nationwide parts finders and suppliers (so far the only ppl to have anything in) vs whats been suggested to me as a decent ballpark figure - i.e. 2 to 4 times more expensive! Its like PC world vs the local "village" computer shop's bargain bin (pay £10 for a floppy drive? £3 is more like it!)
Somewhere they can say... yeah... the book says we had one of those in sometime the last couple years.. here's a crowbar, helmet and a ladder.. go play and we'll charge on the way out

(which also opens up the possibility of coming back later on to cannibalise more suitable bits from the same write-off.... seats, clocks, clear indicators, breathers etc..)
Or at least a breakers that has pulled the components out but isnt totally insane

and isnt so far to require expensive couriering.
Staffs is also doable, be there on tuesday..

Chesterfield I think I could manage; all the way to leeds pushing it just a bit too far, and the cost of delivery is a bit much for my purposes :-/
(hence why i'm looking for things in the midlands

)
its very money-based - at the moment it would be more worth me sprucing the car up and selling it on to buy one with a 5 box as original equip than to get it from somewhere that would have to send it to me.

Sanburns, Coventry? I'm not sure you can walk around it but they're very good for VW bits and very well priced.

cheers guys, i only have a small slab of "tomorrow" now in which to have a go at this (will probably have to ask for delivery direct to the garage soon-as they can manage, if anything presents itself). great help, esp if any of these come thru.
if not, now that a "forgotten" wage packet has come thru, the first £120 quote I had doesnt seem so bad, and a mate at work heard me ***** (uh, female dog-ing) (yeah i'm f***ng obsessed) and happens to know someone who knows someone who might be quick and cheap

ok got some numbers (a lot of them mysterious and probably very expensive 07092's tho), just short on time
hope my battery and credit lasts on the train to this interview
just out of interest, whats that one in chesterfield? Scoot gives me about 20 matches for "breakers" and "chesterfield"...
thx

ohhhh i was weak, i ordered one from the place which had given me the best quote (£120 including tax and delivery, and allegedly good to go onto a 4 speed car).... still got time to say no though, if i can call these places, as stupid me - it's not actually in til thursday! time to tippex that calendar
apparently it came off a regular spi 1.3, which means it may in the end be too high - from figures i've now managed to work out, mebbe i'd have been best getting a regular 1.0 box and just ensuring it was the wide type. oh well. let's experiment, if nowhere can get me one more suitable, cheaper. who knows.... i might get 60mpg out of the thing

(well, heck, it will still give me exact the same ratios in 1st to 4th, so i can totally ignore 5th if i like... til i pull finger out and get the cat removed

)

(i know 01675, 01204, 01248, and 02076, but not that one)

wow! thats great, thanks.
i'll have to bookmark that..... never be unusure of where a mystery (nonmobile) caller is from again
(oh.... the map says somewhere about halfway between preston and workington... thats ruddy miles away - BUT it is beautfully put for the M6, cant be more than 10 miles of surface street tween my house and the breakers, effectively. and there i thought it was going to go overnight express

)
