Coolant Warning Light - 9n3 GTI

Right have a 07 GTI which I have only owned for 2 Months!
Recently the coolent temperature warning light has decided to pop on and off occasionally.
It came on last week when I was exiting a multistorey car park, so decided to stop and check
the coolant level in the reservior but the level seemed fine. So kept the ignition off
for a minute or two and then started the car back and the warning light had gone.
So the light didn't return untill the last two days there. Also the light came on while I was
leaving for work yesterday and this morning so the engine wasn't warm either
Although the car is under warranty I have the option to take it back to steelers but I want to be
certain so that they cant turn me away.
Anyhow from the manual, it suggests it could be one of the following issues
1. The radiator fan fuse (which I cant find?!?!)
2. The coolant Overheating
3. A low coolant level (topped up this morning just incase).
I tried using the Fleebay VAG COM cable (OBD-II) using VCD LITE but the cable doesn't seem to be compatible something about CANBUS?!?!
Which suggests it may not work in my GTI.
Also the car is not overheating well by looking at the gauge, the needle stays at the top/middle.
So just looking for few advice what to do? Is this common in GTI's?
