My Clutch Is Creaky. . .is it about to explode?

Hey guys,
I was sat in the Tesco car park earlier waiting on someone. . .my window was down and my car was in Neutral. I put in my clutch to go into first and I heard a squeeky creak and then put it back into neutral and kept pushing the clutch in and out and it kept making the noise.
does this mean my clutch is about to fall out or snap or something?
Will it be cured by putting some oil in the engine?
Thanks.
Aaron.

Weirdly enough, my car was doing the exact same thing a couple of months ago. It was really annoying, especially cos it was hot so I had the windows down and I spend a lot of time in traffic
I didn't have time to take a look/book it in anywhere so I just left it alone, it sorted itself out after a while and hasn't come back since! Try taking it for a long drive, with lots of varied speeds/gear changes. Sounds weird but it seemed to work for mine, maybe it'll work for you as well?

uve only got a problem if ur car doesnt go in gear, or you have a vibration comming from your gearbox which is usually a flywheel fault otherwise ur fine

Aaron.
I would not put any more oil into the engine unless its needs it, ENGINE - CLUTCH - GEARBOX are all separate "things" although all connected in series.
Noises only when the clutch pedal is held down AND the car is in gear with the engine running AND the car stationary, are usually associated with the clutch as you have guessed - maybe the release mechanism. I think that the clutch design on these cars seems to make them not too robust - if any work needs done in there I'd reckon that the complete clutch "lot of bits" would get replaced due to the initial labour involved with reaching this area. If its a petrol engine then the flywheel should be okay as you would feel vibration if it was slack!

Thanks guys.
I'm a 1.2 petrol

I should mention that my car is off when I hear the noise. If the engine is on I can't hear the creak so presume it still happens.
There's no noise when the clutch is fully pressed in , or released. The squeak only happens AS you push the clutch in to put it into gear. I was stationary so I don't know if it happens between every gear.
But it squeaks as I put the clutch down to move into first. I stuck my head out the window as I pushed the clutch down and it sounds like the sound is coming from the front ..... You can kind of feel the cause of the squeak via your foot pushing the clutch.
Perhaps it will sort itself out. There's no vibration and stuff :S Just a squeak and I'm not sure what it is.
I won't top up the oil though!

I'd think that all Polos have a hydraulic clutch, so its either the pedal linkage inside the car or the slave cylinder-release fork/sleeve. My wife's car makes that noise too but I'm hoping that its the nylon bushes on the clutch pedal or some nylon bits on the link out to the master cylinder-servo - normally there is a ball and socket arrangement that can end up getting "dry" or marked. I'd also hope that the noises that you are now hearing through the open window were no differant than what the car's clutch release mechanism has been making before this time - its only now that you have been listening for noises. Of course it might be that the clutch pressure plates "stiffen up" with age as they used to in the past, if this is the case then the increased load on the clutch pedal will start causing it to make more noise - I'd still reckon that the noise that your's is making is the same as my wife's Polo is right now (2002MY 67,500 miles).

My Old 9n 2004 1.2 use to make the same noise from the day I bought it till the day I sold it

Only used to happen once the car was driven for a few miles. The noise only use to come when the clutch was pushed in and release back up. The GTI doesnt make much but sometime it does tend to.....
