Cheers Alex, I understand what it does it just doesn't seem to do it. I've got it set to 8 on the settings on the radio and the volume doesn't increase as I go faster. I understand that it acts on the via the road speed sensor and that there needs to be a blue wire on pin1 of the black connector of the radio which there is but this is as far as i can get.
Can anyone shed any light on it?

It works on a speed pulse ie 0 1 0 1 0 1, which is fed from the clocks, but basically comes from the speed sensors. The main way to diagnose a fault would be with vagcom, as you can diagnose gamma and beta HUs with this.
However, GALA isnt a particularly useful feature - infact, it generally makes it too loud and you just turn it down anyhow
The best thing to do is to check the wiring on the back of the radio to make sure all looks well, then if you wish, pursue a vagcom route to diagnose the road speed sensors.

Would I need the full blown vagcom to do this or would I be able to do it with the shareware version?

How did you fix it out of interest?

Took the road speed sensor connector on and off a few times and disconnected the black plug from the bag of the radio a few times. Then it started to work so i'm wondering if it was dirty contacts or something?
