My GTI

Post by Dom_ »

Guess I may aswell introduce myself, names Dominic although Dom is prefered. 20 from Leeds, first VAG, coming from a 1.3 Escort. Though I do still love my fords

Anyways here's some info and pics of my GTI :)

Polo GTI with 70k on the clock, plenty (not all) of the History including service book etc etc :) Guy I bought it off spent a lot of time cleaning it all up, including new battery + alternator.

Anyways, pictures of when I got it :)

Sorted the central locking too, it was the aftermarket headunit interfering with it all :headbang:

As for plans:
Coilovers, it does look a bit high ATM for my liking
Got my eye on some 16" BBS wheels that have just been refurbed, as these aren't looking too great :(
Proper floor mats
Respary boot lock/handle
Might get a BMC CDA induction kit, just to beef up the sound a little

Welcome along dude, car looks very nice!

I think your best bet is to machine polish your headlights, ask Tim_GTi on here, think he did his a while back.

I'd recommend the BMC, have one on mine, sounds awesome at higher revs. I also suggest a stubby roof aerial :D

Have a read through what a few guys on here have done to there's, thats what i tend to do

Look forward to seeing its progress.

Welcome to the site mate, very nice GTI you have there :)

Induction kits sound great on these cars, as mentioned above the BMC CDA is the most popular on here and sounds awesome! The K&N typhoon is also a good choice but can cause heat soak issues

With the headlights it is best to get them machine polished like godderz23 said, alternatively you can use some plastic polish on them to get them looking a little fresher. I used Xerapol on mine which did make a difference but some of the stubborn hazing can only be removed with a machine polisher.

Look forward to seeing some more updated 8)

Welcome to the forum dude! :)

Nice polo you've got there. Your rear GTi badge looks brand new! Plans sounds good, just a thought, you should change your sidelights too :)

Yeah they do look a bit shoddy next to the lovely Xenons, but after reading what they're like to do, I'll wait until one blows :P

Thanks everyone, decided it's probably going to be coilovers next, then tidy the wheels up :)

I also need to ring VW and see if the Pedal box has been done, or get under there and check it out..the clutch doesn't feel too great and it's not THAT old, so I'm wondering if the pedalbox may be on the way out :(

Bump! Been slowly getting there with the GTI, over the past few weeks I've done:

Bought some 16" RXII's :)
4 New Continental Sport Contact 2's
Some 30mm eibach pro kit springs
Also given the headlights a going over with some PlastX, they do look better, but still far from perfect :(

Some pictures! I think the uneven surfaces make it look higher than it sits, though it needs to be lower :(

Really like this pic :)

Close parking or what?

Still not as I want it though, got 2 new rear shockers coming monday, aswell as some floormats, wheel nut covers (the black ones), a track rod end. Also got a new coin tray/cup holder assembly. After that, I reckon a decent exhaust is needed, aswell as a service/front brakes. I'm going to make sure I use genuine parts though :)

Cheers, I love it already...apart from what it's cost me so far  Hopefully when I come to sell, I can get more than what I paid for it (if these maintain their value, which you'd imagine they will) :)

Oh and red grille trim, need to get that off ebay :D

And with the wheels, I couldn't resist...such a steal at the price

Looks very nice dude, wheels look nice, what have you done with the old 15's?

Needs to drop down a fair bit in my opinion though. Other than that very cool 8)

They're sat at work. They're really not in that bad condition, the tyres aren't great, but still legal. I will probably just sell them as they are, make some money back off them :)

How much do you reckon I can get for them?

And cheers :D

Well i sold a set loads worse than yours for £100, without tires.

£200 maybe, depends on the condition of the tires etc.

Looking good mate, 16" RXII's make a big difference to the look of the car.
The set you bought were a real bargain :)
