Hiya

Right can anybody tell me what nice alloys would fit my 1997 vw polo 1.4 cl. wanting some chrome looking ones maby or some other smarts ones

There is so much choice when it comes to alloy wheels for the polo. Personally I prefer 15" rims, but 16" can work too. Saying that, you can't beat a decked 6n on classics (IMO ). It depends on what your after really, dished, wide, splits, single piece, banded steels etc etc. Your best bet is to look online at some of the cars, some cars will look amazing on rims, where as some will look crap.

Take a look at some of the following brands, as these are the biggest ones I know.

BBS
Schmidt
Borbet
ATS
Lenso
Ronal
Porsche
Audi

Some will require adaptors to fit due to the PCD stud fitment, but these are readily available so don't be too put off

no wont be put off by that main this is dont wanna do any cutting or arches etc etc. do you no anygood places to buy wheels like that from.

Wouldnt mind getting some audi alloys or something else its just dont feel comfatable about using the pcd adaptors are they safe they wont do anyhard or put anytrain on will they?

PCD adaptors are very safe providing you fit them correctly. They are basically 25mm metal spacers with holes which convert your 4 stud nuts to fit the 5 studd nut of Audi's, mercs etc. Is your car lowered? If not, you wont experience any scrubbing at all unless your on balloon tyres. If your rolling on 15" alloys, the correct tyre profile for your car should be 195/45/15 (this is what I use, 165/45/15 for a bit of stretch ). 16" are 195/40/16.

Buying wheels new is expensive, you should probably look at the for sale section here, club polo, edition 38 etc to find a set. Do people still buy "New" alloy wheels?

For tips for styling, buy Performance VW or Golf+ from your local magazine shop.

Dindnt realise they were safe. no car aint lowered wasnt looking at buying new ens second hand is cool. so if i bought a set of alloys like audi ones were do i get the pcd converts from. cos me polo only 4 stud and my alloys most likely be 5.

wow just been looking at your red polo same as mine 1.4cl 1997 5 door but mine green. i looking at getting some gti bumpers looking good. didnt realise ya could make em look smart.

there me fav rims on big prob they 18inch and means alot of work to get em to fit. shame realy

At the end of the day it's your preferance but owners tend to stick to 16" rims as the highest. With 17's you'll get scrubbage at standard height and 18's will be too difficult. Additionally, it'll raise the height of your car making it look like it's on stilts and out of proportion to the car. Just food for thought
