Would a 2.0l 16v swap straight over for a 1.4 16v?
Would love a 1.8t but budgeting 6k+ isnt worth it to me and i was hoping to find a mk2 ibiza gti to swap bits over from.
Has anyone done this before that could offer any advice
cheers

I am not sure if the 2.0 lump will fit into a 6N2 without serious modification dude, I have never seen it done before either.

Have you considered dropping the 1.6 GTI engine in there? I know the 2.0 lump is 150bhp compared to the GTI's 125 but the 1.6 lump is lighter and there won’t be any fitment issues. You can pick up a 1.8T 20V engine & gearbox relatively cheaply but it’s the labour costs that are the downside, unless you have the facilities to do it yourself.

I considered it, but then just thought for the money I could just buy a 6n2 gti, and probably still have change!

I just thought the mk2 ibiza and mk4/5 polo would be closely matched and cheap to find, do the work myself with a mate.

Have had a 1.8t ibiza before but I just wanted something different and always liked the 6n2 styling.

The MK3 Ibiza's are very similar to the 6N2 Polo's, they share the same chassis and suspension set up but I think the MK2 is a lot different. You can get a GTI engine & Box for about £600-700 so it wouldnt be too costly, there is a guy called Duncan on here(user name - Tegwin) who has got a GTI engine for sale, If memory serves its been totally rebuilt and is in excellent condition. Might be worth dropping him a PM to see if he still has it.

I think i'm right in sayin the MK2 Ibiza Engine is the same as the MK3 Golf GTI engine (16V not 8V) with 150bhp so it might be worth checking a few of the Golf GTI forums to see if any of those lads have stuck that engine in a Polo.
It probably would fit but whether it would be worth it is another question.

Hope you find what you want anyway dude

Ben,
