'Follow Me' HeadLight Mod?

Hi, bit of a random question;

Some cars (I know the M3 does and my mates old MG) have a feature called something like 'follow me'
Where basically the headlights stay on for a few seconds whilst you walk to your front door at night, and that sort of thing.
With the MG if u turned the car off, then the lights. Then they'd stay on for a few seconds.
And with the M3 it's something like you flash your lights twice before removing the keys from the ignition.

Anywhoo my question(s) is...

Do you think it would be possible to get the GTI doing this?
What sort of unit or what not would you need to buy?
What would be involved in installing it?

Cheers guys

I would say it's possible with a timer relay but you'd have to be prepared to cut into various parts of the headlight wiring and what not.Not a straight OEM swap from another car unfortunately.

its called coming home not follow me :P

newer golfs and that have it, and its controlled by the convenience module, which the polo has, but its not linked to the headlights and in any way similar.

Agree with bradley im sure its possible, but will invole some butchering..!

Plus you always get people saying "you've left your lights on mate" and then you'll have to say its on a timer and look like a t**t.

Hi all new here,

I did this on my previous Fabia using this guide: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/114422 ... me-lights/ . As said in the thread, it's not ideal as the opening of doors activate the lights which is annoying, but other than that it worked. Assuming the light switch is the same it should be straight forward, if not just a case of working out which wire it is on the light switch.

Joe.

Cheers for the link TriggerFish I'll have a look later am using an iPhone at the mo and finding it slow.

So many cars seem to have this feature I'm so shoeless the GTI doesn't as standard.
Found this info by doing a bit of googling.
Every car seems to have a different way of using them. Personally I like the M3 way the most.

Mini Forum - It is a programmable feature as far as I know. I want to get this, Daytime Running Lights and Comfort Opening enabled in my Cooper next service stop.

Follow me lights just means that the headlights stay ON for a pre-determined amount of time (30 seconds to 1 minute) after you exit the car. It is a good safety feature if you park in dark driveways or for women when parking in desolate or dark places at night.

M3 Forum - follow me home" feature if you pull the light stalk after removing the key keeps them on for 30 secs or so.

Fiat Forum - "Did ya know punto mk2 and mk2b have "Follow me home" function?
It's used to enlight you way home from parking space and house door lock. Turn off the engine (or just MAR and off) and you have 2 minutes to activate it by pulling the ligt switch your way (blitz effect while lights on). And it's on for 30 secs (or 2 mins, not sure). Every new blitz prolongs it for 30 secs, upto 5 mins. Hold it your way for 2 secs to turn it off."
