gearbox problems

just been told i need a new gearbox just hit 62k and i understand this is a regular problem!
does anyone know of any other boxes which will fit the 1.0l and cause less grief?
otherwise anyone know of any good dealers of recon'd boxes been quoted £500 but apparently thats a lot of money
any help is greatly appreciatedd

Hey mate, I found this on ebay. Obviously it doesn't include labour but maybe you could get a local garage (not dealer) to quote you labour. However it doesn't say anything useful about delivery...

yeah man took a looka t these
just a bit worried on what mileage theyve done though

i mean theres no point in replacing this one with one which ahs done 56k when itll probably have the same problem
looking at recon now if im honest, fittings not the problem also no one deliveres to the isle of wight for realistic money were robbed here!

I'm no mechanic mate but is there a notable problem with the car. I've got a faulty gearbox myself but I tend to drive around it for now. You can't change from 5th to 4th, it just wont have it. You have to push it towards 3rd then come back down, you get pretty quick at it to be honest. It will eventually need changing but its been doing it for since well before my mate bought it the car at 50k and now its on 111k.
Yeah that's the problem with remote places i suppose. I guess its impractical to get it done on the mainland. There was a place by Dartford that will fit a recon box while you wait in their customer room or something. Its prob a shed but I'll see if i can find more out.
