Endi_GTI's GTI: Typhoon Shlurpie carnage
Hi guys,
Got my GTi about 4 months ago after having a 1.0 6N2. Im new to the forum but look forward to finding some new ideas that can help me make my GTi better. On the way back from buying it the gearbox started to go, so this was one of the first things i had to do. The 5th gear needle roller bearing had failed but i see a lot of you guys have had this problem and it is common with this car. I have a few pictures off my phone but hope to get a better camera soon:
The new GTi and the old 1.0:
The GTi at work doing the gear box and various other bits and pieces:
The Gear Box in a million pieces:
I was a bit worried about buying a red GTi due to red cars being renowned for fading in with UV. However i do really like the colour. I have given the car a really good machine polish and then treated it with some left over 'Auto Glym Life Shine' from work. It looks really good now and if i keep it waxed and polished i hope it will not fade:
I have some plans for the car. I would like to get the OEM wheels reconditioned and some minor body work done. The engine is completely standard at the moment but i have ordered the BMC CDA. I would also like to upgrade the audio in the car. Not to sure what else for the minute but would appreciate any comments or suggestions
Will also try and get some better images up as well

Welcome mate! Nice to see another tidy original red gti about on here
Make sure you get a decent silicone bend and cold air feed for the BMC - makes a world of difference!

Yeah i was looking into this. I thought about just plumbing it in to the standard air intake but it all looks a bit restrictive. I see that it goes right down near the fog light?? I think... Would it be best to put a whole new air feed pipe where the original was or just one straight into the grill? Not to sure yet.

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Your best getting rid of the OEM air feed mate because you dont get the full potential of the BMC CDA when its running off the standard air feed. Its fed from the wing but your best bet is to remove the OEM feed which looks like a Octopus and buy some ducting (70mm) and run it staight from the BMC into the wing like so:

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI

Does any one know the service intervals of the foam element?

Re: Endi_GTI's GTI
Yeah mate you can get it off eBay or from any good car part suppliers.
The BMC does come with Ducting but its not long enough to reach the Air feed in the wing (plus its pretty poor ducting) so your best getting yourself some decent ducting before you fit it.

A meter is plenty - search for Cold Air Feed hose
Intervals on the normal element are every year, but a BMC is once every 50k, though its worth giving it a shake every so often as it acquires leaves lol
