Hi,

After a pain in the butt winter last year, the problem has occurred once again.

When it is frosty in the mornings my front 2 doors are solidly stuck. The door unlocks, but when pulling on the handle there is no resistance. So there is no 'pop' when the handle is pulled to open the door.

My only way of getting in the car is through the rear doors, and turning up the heating until the doors decide to free up and open.

Does any one else have this problem?

Thank god I have a 5dr Polo! Although I would like to get this problem sorted once and for all!

HaHa I remeber that happening to me last winter. except all 4 doors froze up. i had to climb in thru my boot.
i then go to work and luckily my manager and friend were out the back of work. i got them to pull the door whilst i pushed from the inside.
I then went inside grabbed some WD40 and sprayed away. got rid of all the moisture for a bit so that they didnt freeze up again.



Im dreading any snow this year. i live on hills so getting home was out of the question. one day it took me 2 hours to get to my boyfriends house which is normally a 5 min drive. at the slightest bit of snow this year im walking

A lot of cars do this including my Polo its probably due to the fact that the gaps on the doors are quite large on Polos.
The best solution is to the get a cup of warm water (not boiling!) and just run it down the door seal, it takes 5 seconds and the doors opens straight away

So its something we all have to put up with. Dammit. Oh well I will try the warm water method tomorrow!

A good quality lubricant inside the lock mechanism will resolve this. Such as white grease or lithium grease as these arent affected by temperature drop
