Hello there
Total noob here! Just bought a very nice Polo GTI 56 plate....love it to bits but i have a few niggles before i start fitting coilovers and wheels
wondering if anyone knows a solution to these problems before i take it to the dealers
Fog lights are constantly on...you can turn them off..when driving i notice that sometimes they go off but then come back on again
Coolant light regularly comes on ...even though the coolant levels are correct (Resolves the problem when you take the top off)
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Sam

I dont know about the fog lights, sounds like its a switching problem though. Might be worth removing the headlight switch and seeing if there is a loose connection or something.
Is there a pronged sensor in the coolant....? On my ibiza the metal prongs corroded slightly and just needed cleaning with a screwdriver.
Both bits of info could be completely useless though

The coolant issue is definately due to faulty/leaky radiator. Experienced similar symptoms like yourself and in the end it was a leaky radiator.

If the levels are fine, then the sensor has corroded as posted above. You can try and free off the corrosion but a new sensor will cure it.
If the radiator was leaking the levels would be low.

Thats true! Didnt read the original post properly

Yeh the coolant level in mine did go down but strangely it was a slow leak. The level would take about
a day or two to go down for the warning light to pop up.
Also from what I have heard radiator leaks are common in the gti's

Yup my gti had new radiator few months ago mine is 56 plate. Stand in front on the car and you want the right hand side look underneath around the plastic tray if it is leakin you will spot the drop common place to go!

Think my 56 GTi may have a rad leak too, coolant light randomy came on when I started it a few days ago, topped it up with a bit of water (as it says to do if the correct fluid is not available) and its gone off, not checked if its gone down again recently though
Will check in the morning
