Battery chargers?

Right, haven't used my car for a while and its freezing cold outside so typically my battery has gone flat.
It's 5 years old now so I think it's probably due a change anyway, but I'm looking into getting a trickle charger as well so that the new one doesn't go dead as well. I've been looking at the CTEK CTE-XS3600, has anyone got any experience of these? Are they any good? Am I right in thinking that I can just connect it in the same way that I would to jump start the car?
Thanks in advance.
