Cold Starting Issue?

I've been having issues with starting my 1.4 in the cold. Noticed it last winter as well but didn't get round to taking a look before it got warmer and the problem disappeared, but now its back and worse than before.
Basically, if I try to start the car from cold, it just keeps turning over until I press the accelerator, at which point it starts up and idles completely fine. The problem doesn't return again until the engine has fully cooled down (such as overnight) regardless of however many times I restart it. I need to get it running properly for its MOT in a few weeks and I'm a bit stuck for ideas on what it could be... cold start valve perhaps?
