Hey guys,

Every year. . .just a week or so after my service. . .the emission warning light comes on.

I'm CONVINCED that VW actually time this to come on every year to fleece the owner.

It came on again tonight. . .just a week or two after my service and I'm getting a bit fed up of having to fix this every single year.

Usually it's just a dodgy "sensor that needs cleaned" but I guess I won't know till I book it in.

Does anyone else get this on a "suspiciously yearly" basis?

No, they don't.

If it's happening on a regular basis, something sounds amiss. I'd go and complain, take any receipts for previous occurrences with you (I'm assuming that you are using the same garage) and ask them to explain precisely why they haven't been able to solve the problem.

Alternatively, get a cheap diagnostic reader off ebay, check the fault code and google it. Might throw up a common problem/quick fix. It'll also let you clear it and time how long it takes to come back.

Surely if they did this then there would be a lot more people complaining about this?

There's something wrong somewhere pal but the thing being Vw are useless at fault finding so they probably just look at the code and clear it then it will just pop back up

Maybe buy one form Gendan - its a VAG only one for just under £40 delivered and I can confirm that they do work (http://www.gendan.co.uk) - just be prepared to scour the internet to get a good full listing of fault codes.

Edit, look for the Volkswagen Audi Seat Skoda code reader - not the general OBD11 one as the VAG one can also help with ABS AUTO TRANS and SRS stuff.
