Depending on the size you go for:
Chunky ones are behind the bumper inbetween the arch liner and the bumper, or alternatively under the lip of the front where the bonnet catch is
slim ones can be mounted underneath the headlights as theres enough space in the recess

slimline ones so guessing best underneath the headlights

Aye. Youll need to drill six small holes and use small cableties to mount them

Well, its still a grey area
The DoT Legislation states that if having xenon HIDs, you should have projection headlights, or headlights designed to take an HID bulb that are capable of displaying a clean and non-glary beam
However, there is no law that says its illegal, and MOT testers rarely will fail a test if a car has HIDs as long as the headlights are level and dont create too much glare
You wouldnt need any adapters - just make sure you get H7 fitment when they are ordered, or if you have a Mk4, you'll need to get a H4 Hi/Lo kit as the Mk4s have one bulb for both main and dipped beam.
You will get a better beam on a Mk4 also as its a patterned glass headlight, therefore itll have a crisper cutoff and less glare due to the design
Hope this helps!

i ended up mounting the ballasts on the underside of the plastic cross panel at the top, reason for this as my hands were so cold and i had managed to cut my knuckle open, i may move them under the headlights when the weather picks up
