ok this may sound stupid but ive seem to have lost a lot of acceleration and my car has limited itself to 80mph

i didnt think these could even do that... was on the m1 last monday and the engine light flashed at me for roughly 5 seconds then it reduced in speed and now wont pass 80mph ???? any one got any ideas ?

2 starts and as long as the fault has gone it should reset itself - it's limp home mode and you are right it does seriously limit speed and acceleration
If you have vag com you can see what codes are in memory

Il see if I can get that done as a temporary fix but does anyone have an idea as to what caused the problem in the first place ?.

Could be a 101 things - only with a scanner like vag com can you find out the codes resident in memory once you have codes you have potential answers

its still the same, little jumpy slow as anything and still limited to a max speed of 80 lol i realize 80mph anywhere is still speeding but its making overtaking more effort than its worth as the acceleration is so bad and its just annoying not having the option to go faster...

Then the fault is still there - vag com needed

its likely to be a cam or crank sensor, but you need vagcom as bstardchild says to diagnose the fault properly.

I've got a copy but I'm not exactly near Northampton - might be worth a shout out to see if anyone more local to you has one and would be prepared to code read the car
