Hi pal,
Mine had same problem good thing about mine was it was under warranty!
The box has to be taken out and stripped down mine needed other parts such as full gears replaced and some bearings inside .
Then took them 6 attempts to seal the box fully! It's not a 5 min job and Vw charge nearly 500 just to take the thing out!

I had it too! fixed under warranty last year, the syncro mesh goes in them. somthing to do with vw putting the wrong gearbox oil in them from the factory! There was a recall on them thoguh so i dont know if you could get it sorted out maybe??
Go down to the stealers and ask them

its definately your problem! thoguh i dare say a six speed couldnt hurt you either lol

No worries dude! Only thing i dont know is if they will then fix your gearbox for free due to the recall or if you will have to pay... No ideas!
Luckily i never had to find out, mine had the recall done a year before but obviously too late as the box went anyway!

HI Drennan,
I was lucky to find the gearbox on ebay for just £180
The gearbox goes straight in and the drive shafts bolt up too.
The only mod i had to do was a slight mod to the chassis leg as a small part of the box sits about 2mm from the leg various ways to get around this though.
Verve? dont know who that is. Don't work for or with this company.
Did it all myself with the help of a friend.
Changed it just because i wanted a 6 speed.
My 5 speed was and still is fine just sitting the the cupboard for a rainy day.

I used a Golf MK5 2.0 FSI 6 speed gearbox.
I haven't seen the gearbox from the Polo 1.9tdi but if you get a couple pics of it i could tell you if it's the one.

None of these are what you are after.
You need it from the Mk5 Golf 2.0 FSI (non Turbo) or Audi A3 2.0 FSI (non Turbo).
The box looks like this
