Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I got new wishbone bushins in my car and when my mum was phoning the garage to book it in (I was at work) she said it was a golf.

Is it possible that the garage would have put on golf bushins instead? Or are all the bushins the same.

I only ask because I've driven my car for the first time in two weeks because of snow and I've got a weird creaking noise as I drive coming from the car :S Could it be dirt and rust and stuff needing just a good clean? Or could the bushins have exploded or something :S

If I brake without the radio on it sounds like wire wool scraping against wood (I'd no screeching but it sounds dry) is there a way to stop this and make the pads moist again?

Did you use a VW garage or an independent? See if the receipt has any part numbers or references on it and check with your local parts department. That said, I'm not really a suspension expert but I'd assume the parts would be different as its a bigger car... Don't think anything will have exploded though.

As to the braking, as you haven't driven the car for a while it sounds like some rust has built up on the brake discs. It should come off pretty quickly just through normal driving though. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's still there after a few days to be honest.

I'll get it washed good and proper tomorrow, get some petrol, take it out on a lovely drive and see what happens.

Any proper garage would end up waiting until the car had been handed in before sourcing parts, so I'd reckon that the correct parts would have been fitted. Maybe strange but true, the similar bush (they are called bushes not bushins) used in newer Golfs, is an assembly with rubber insert inside an aluminium casting - the rubber insert is exactly the same item as is now used to replace the crap original voided bushes in the 9N Polos.

I used a local garage so doubt i was lucky enough to get the new Golf bushes.

Took it out today and got it washed and it's still making the noise. I cant' tell whether its coming from inside the car on my side, or outside the car. Going to take a friend for a spin to see if he can advise me where it's coming from.

If it's dirt and salt under the car. . .will this gradually go away driving in rain or should I get an MOT wash incase that's the problem (could that even be the problem lol).

Also. . .perhaps if it's coming from the wheel arch (if that's where the bushes are) then surely both sides would be making the noise so I guess it's not them after all. Maybe one of the bushes just needs to get a bit of wear and the squeaking is just the car breaking it in?

I hope it's not one of those mystery noises that occur in cars at a certain age that never go away.

Is the noise constant or is it only at certain times (eg: during braking, making a turn, etc)?

You could always take it back to the garage and get them to sort it out?

We have loads of 9n3 with control arm bushes failing and to reduce amount of times they need to replace them, they use the golf4 ones as they are tougher

The noise happens quite a lot but not as a result to any particular action.

During my service VW said it needed new bushins (that's what it says on the sheet but I now know they're called bushes ) but I don't even know if they were at the front or the back and I doubt the garage remembers.

I'll report back when I examine the issue in further detail. Thanks for the help guys.

My garage couldn't specify the noise and said it would he trial and error If I wanted it fixed :(

Volkswagen offer a free 35 point check.

Does anyone know what they check? Maybe I'd be lucky and they'd find the problem in one of the 35 points ?

Worth a try if it's free. I reckon they'd probably give the suspension a once over, which sounds like where your problem is coming from.

Garage sounds a bit dodgy mate, problem develops in an area that they have just worked on and they don't want to accept responsibility or even check that it's not due to their work? Doesn't sound very professional to me.

It's so annoying. It's constant now and really beginning to grate. Hope they find a problem. I'll happily pay to have it fixed.
