Hi Everyone

I am hoping to take delivery of my Polo GTI within the next 10 days, but i have a question re: the fuel it takes. is it specified anywhere that the car needs a higher octane fuel or does it just run on standard unleaded?

Both just faster on 99 tesco had mine few weeks runs sweet on both. Much better than my 9n3 gti

The GTI will run on both but using 99 over 95 gives approx 3-5 bhp more so it will feel a little sweeter and give you slightly better fuel consumption. I try and run mine on 99 V Power all the time if I can get it.

95 is no good for them changed 3 engines in the rocco which has the same engine all had cracked pistons run on cheap fuel happy days

What exactly was the cause and which petrol did you use? If you had 3 engines was it the same pistons in each? I have only used 99 v power so far so what do VW recommend to prevent this?

was not my cars they were 3 different customers i work at the dealers the cars all used cheap supermarket fuel

Ok thanks was this down to detonation? I assume VW paid for the new engines. Is the engine in the polo GTI any stronger with the increase in power? As you work for VW what do they recommend 98 & 99 only, what about Tesco 99? If this engine is likely to break not using good petrol what is the likely reliability if mapped to 200+ will additives be required? Understand that your response won't be taken as a VW official statement but I am a little concerned so would be grateful for a response

they paid for engines yes but the amount of pictures they wanted taken was unreal also we normally send them back with these they sent someone to pick them up so they maybe unwilling to pay for an engine in the future but who knows

id stick with shell vpower 99 as for mapping you should be ok if you stick to the right fuel ive found it best with new models is let someone else have a map done as they always end up having afew corrections done in the end then to the map this will show up any engine trouble with the higher power
