Advice on which Polo to buy?

Hey everyone, it's my birthday in April, and I'm planning on buying a 9n3 Polo.

I'm thinking of getting the 1.6 Sport version, 'cause I'd like something quickish and something that can be comfortable for motorway driving etc., but I was wondering too about the GTi version. Is it worth getting it over the Sport with the extra cost of insurance? I'm guessing I don't really need the GTi, but I'd love to say I owned one haha. Also, is the Sport a good car generally?

Anything's gonna be an improvement coming from my 6n2 1.0 E haha, just wondered everyone's opinions.

Thanks :)

First, good choice on the 9N3 8)

The GTi is an awesome car, but it is quite a few insurance groups above the Sport models. It's worth getting a few quotes before you decide, as quite a few insurers put an age limit/huge premium on cars like the GTi. Both are pretty well specced as standard, remote locking, electric windows/mirrors, easy entry rear seats, all the important stuff like that.

There's another thread on here about running costs. GTi's can drink pretty heavily when driven on full boost, so it's worth a read. Personally (and I had a 1.4 before mine so the drop in fuel economy is quite noticeable) I'd rather walk than give mine up lol.

This is coming across as a bit one sided, and I've never driven a Sport so I suppose the best advice is to go and have a go in both and see if you think the GTi is worth it. Happy hunting!

buy a diesel plenty of tuning potential, give it a few tune ups and gti lucks and you get the best of both worlds

If you can afford to run/insure/tax the GTI then get it, simple as. you will never look back.
