Hi there complete newbie to VWs,

I am currently looking at the new Polo unsure of what engine/model to go for either a 1.2 or 1.4 what are your opinions/experiences with them?

I would also be looking on lowering the car, what are the results like on springs or are you best to pay more and get coilovers?

I currently have a 1.4 se its quite quick for what it is and handles well if a bit too roly poly. However i mainly drive down country lanes to work and round towns and have found im only getting about 35mpg out of it can get much better on motorways though.

other than that very refined car great interior id recomend paying the extra for the 1.4 over the 1.2 70ps because the 1.2 is a very noisey engine. If you can go one better and get the 1.6 deisel or 1.2 tsi as there much faster and will get better fuel economy as well.

As for lowering it Ive got kw coils on mine and the ride is awesome on them not crashy or anything just well damped and handle the body roll well. (ps im selling them as im trading up to a vrs if your interested)

Depends on your budget but the 1.2 TSI is probably best as it has good performance and economy. But then again the GTI has fantastic performance and good economy too.

Thanks for the advice guys, given me more help on deciding. As for a Gti I would have one for sure but trying to save some money on insurance, petrol etc etc. One of the reasons why going for Polo great looking car even at the base model


Duffman how much you selling the coilovers for out of curiosity?

well there on here for £420 collected there 725 new. Id have kept them but they wont fit my vrs when i get it.

Why the VRs and not a GTI especially as you have had VW's? I know the VRs is better value speed/£ but the GTI has got to be the better car overall and will be worth more when it comes time to change.

Its mainly due to cost i sold my last gti to save money mainly for a house and with the no vat deal its cost me bugger all to swap whereas a gti would cost me a few grand.

+ i didnt really fancy a cupra too common and im not really sold on the looks and i fancy the challenge of modding a fabia, should be different as well.

Fair enough cost is a major driver and one of the reasons I went from a Golf to a Polo. When do you get your new car is the VRs a long wait like the Polo?

Well apparently it will be ready in march which is no time at all considering i ordered in january but know vag production lines it will probably take a couple of weeks extra.
I cant wait to get it now the longer i wait the bigger my shopping list for it gets lol
