FAO yours if poss, fuel economy - tuned polo gti

ok, so my polo gti doesnt get used much so its not a killer issue, but still, am i missing a trick
fuel economy wise on a town like run with no hard driving or accelerating im getting 18 mpg - 22 mpg, on a long motorway like run, im seeing only high 20's
now the car is tuned and as a result i know fuel economy will be reduced but im wondering if any of the mods are hitting the consumption harder than im thinking they may be, eg n75j valve instead of stock n75, could my maf be dead/dying etc
here is a list of engine mods
stage 2 - revo tecknic mapping - custom setup on rolling road at awesome gti to take full advantage of other mods
milltek turbo back exhaust and milltek sports cat
apr r1 diverter valve
new south performance power gasket
n75j valve
full forge motorsport front mounter intercooler conversion
all forge silicone piping and forge map sensor pipe
forge silicone tip
jetex cone filter from badger 5
now the car is serviced religiously at awesome gti yearly without question or limits on funds, it gets what it needs regardless of price, the car has recently had a full major service inc new plugs (standard) cam belt and every wheel and tensioner changed for new
on the last rolling road session my car returned a modest 233.1 bhp and 291 ft/lb torque and as a result it really does move, like a bullet, its been played with against awesome gti's 265 bhp & 299ft/lb torque k04 hybrid turbo ibiza and was glued to it
car runs fine on a day to day basis, only thing its done and has done for about 2 1/2 years now is when you first start it and its running high on revs to start, it almost sounds like it misses slightly only for a second or 2, but sounds like a machine gun, ill try to explain below
start up - brum brum brum brum da da da da da brum brum brum - car settles to idle and runs perfect, never misses again
anyone help me on this ? or is it normal and im just being picky

how do big man!
i get usually 18-20 driving about town...
this weekend i went down to milon keynes, full tank, 60 quid, about 46 litres forced in - got 30mpg average! got about 310 to the tank though, which is a record!
mods wise:
revo stage 2 - with 4bar fpr - to which i think killed the mpg off!
milltek turbo back
forge tip,
either k&n induction or piperx panel - season dependant!
only thing i havent got is the front mount - but on the rollers at awesome i got 205bhp and 280 ft/lb torque
seems that the front mount frees up alot of power - which is understandable - but torque wise its not too different - i need to go back to awesome to get it mapped on the rollers to see what else they can get out of her, but as a flash on st2 it seems ok!
and that idle thing - its perfectly normal - does it on mine - has done since day one and nothings come about it - so dont worry about it mate - sounds awesome though when it makes the machine gun noise haha

Cheers fella, long time no see, glad it's not just mine ha ha, has never bothered me to be honest as awesome said it's really nothing to worry about, so just left it but wondered if others did the same, some forums are blaming revo maps for it but mine did it on apr maps too.
Fuel economy seems similar kc to be fair and I don't ever do enough miles to use a full tank on motorways, 190 - 220 round town seems normal on revo so far, 230 was my best in apr

Well the sound mentioned above happens in my GTI aswell, like it chokes for a second then runs on high revs until it settles down. Now, this only
happens during cold start but usually each mornings.
Also my GTI is standard and does return respectful mpg. I still remember journey from liverpool to devon it gave me 37mpg

If you go on full grandad mode you can get mid-40's.
Nice to know a remap (JBS are offering map, panel filter and recirc valve for about £300 - sound ok?) won't end up costing too much in fuel.

My Polo does the same on cold startup aswell .
My fuel consumption is around 38-40mpg on Motorway trips and anything from 28- 33mpg running about the town. Once averaged 47mpg on a trip from Edinburgh to Northampton to Edition 38 but that was driving through the night doing about 60-65mph as I was knackered and not in the right frame of mind for driving fast.
I have an APR stage 1 map
Turbo back Milltek
K+N panel filter and pd160 intake
Forge turbo intake and intercooler hoses
N75J valve
APR dump valve

see i was getting that before revo stage2 - im still pretty certain is the 4bar regulator shoving all my go-go-juice into the rail at a stupid pace! lol

Same as you kc,
Changed my plugs on Tuesday from Bosch super plus to ngk diamond ones as they were slightly cokes up and it's loads more responsive now and smoother and fuel economy this morning was mid 20's so defo a 4bar pressure reg change causing the extra thirst issue

by loud
mine has milltek turbo back, jetex cone filter with pd160 intake, stage 1 remap seeing around 220bhp
on my daily 25 mile commute i was seeing early 30s, most of it is A road/dual carriageway so i'm sitting around 80/90 most the way with a lot of overtaking. Changed my TT comps back to my standard wheels and now i'm seeing mid to high 30s on the same commute.
Drove to aviemore in the highlands (100 mile trip) up big hills etc sitting around 70 most the way and saw 45mpg average
Think it's definitely stop/start town driving that kills the fuel!

Just to update, since changing my plugs to the ngk diamonds I have not had the misfire style machine gun noise on startup

Jeff, I have to also say that It's Stage 2 REVO that kills the economy. I used to get average 8.2-9.0litres / 100km. My average now sits at around 10litres / 100km and can be worse in city. This is with REVO 2.
