That'll be a hash. The beam pattern will be all over the place blinding other drivers. You'll need to get a proper HID conversion kit or get some GTI Projector headlights.

Those bulbs J25ly has recommended are just crisper output 55W incandescant ie not HID bulbs.
If you want a xenon look, they will do
If you actually want xenons, youll need to get a HID kit

Ahh ok.
So in short, don't put HID bulbs in non-HID headlights.

lol no
You can put HID kits into non HID headlights, but the beam pattern isnt brilliant on some cars, plus from Dec 2011, MOTs are getting tighter.
To do it properly, either GTI headlights or Angel eyes with projectors and an HID kit.

I think I understand now! Cheers for clearing that up.
It's all too confusing for me

It's pretty simple dude,Xenon is the type of gas within the bulb same as a Halogen bulb.HID is just the way the bulb produces the light so requires a different type of Xenon bulb.

To make it even clearer, a normal bulb (known as incandescant) has a filament that burns to create light. An HID bulb has a metal such as sodium, lithium etc, that is hit with loads of electricity, and creates an 'arc' of light - ie it has no filament.

@Bradley - Sweet

makes sense now. I think i was getting confused between xenon and HID and assuming because it was a xenon bulb it won't work properly without projectors.
@Alex - That's pretty cool! I may have to look this stuff up on wikipedia

always nice to expand on knowledge about things like this.

Its goot to be in the know
Xenon Gas filled normal bulbs and Xenon HIDs are rather simple when you break it down

As Alex said pretty much.
To add to it different grades of light within the HID bulb range are measured in Kelvin, much like the picture on a DSLR Camera. The higher the kelvin the warmer the colour,10,000K being alot warmer/purpler that a regular 4100K bulb which will be more or a clear crystal white.
The Warmth is determined by the quantity/mix of Metal salts and normally Sodium gas.
Much like Plasma TV's
