New timing best at 4 years?

Hi, you guys seem like a good lot, can you help me out?

I recently took in my 2007 Polo for the 30000 km service, and the guy told me I'd need to get the timing belt done soon. Is that just them trying to get us to pay them a bunch of money, or do they really need doing every 4 years? I thought 100 000Kms was the norm–is there something special about the Polo that means it needs three times as many belts?

Should I find a new place to get it serviced next time, or is this guy ok?

4 years or 40k miles these days. Its to rule out possible early failure of the belt and/or tensioners.

Wow, so once every 4 years? That's pretty steep, oh well.

I paid about £300 last time I think. You've still got a while to go before it needs doing though, just get it done when the car's 4 years old. It's not going to be in danger of exploding or anything, it's just good practice to get it changed.
