lower grills + fog lights

Hi all,
finally convinced my dad to find a car for me after many arguments with my sister (she's curbed 4 tyres). Managed to pick me up a base 2006 1.2E 9n3 model in silver. I've never done any mods to a car but am very intrigued and have loads of ideas running through my head, just want to start off with small exterior changes first.
Anyway, as stated i have the base 1.2E model so the lower grills are slats without fog lights. i've been thinking about either getting a set of honeycomb grills with fog lights or keeping the slats and buying the lower grills with fog lights. im just wondering how i would wire the fog lights to work with the switch. My uncle is a body mechanic/engineer so could potentially help, but i want to have a go first for myself. step by step guide would be good. im probably going to buy the parts from vaglinks or ebay...which evers cheaper:D
would you guys recommend slats or honeycomb? im obviously looking for the all show no go look
my dad also mentioned that because the car is a 1.2 3cylinder, having any tyres wider than 195s would burn the engine/gear box out...can anyone confirm this?
the car also has standard plastic trims and wing mirrors, can these be primed/painted easily?
