What's the 'S'for on my gear stick

Polo 1.2 turbo just bought but I have no English manual, I am still trying to locate one. In the meantime does anyone know what ths S is for on the gear stick.

sport mode i didnt think vw offered a 1.2 tsi with dsg

Yes it is a 1.2 with DSG but that said, this is in Cyprus. So when would you use this mode?

It's still auto, but it holds the gears for longer, so you stay in the powerband for longer. Thats the idea anyway.
You basically use it when you want to have some fun (but for more fun, use manual mode

)

Also in 'D', as shown, you can push the gear stick sideways and select a sort of manual-ish mode. Change up and down by moving the gear stick front (+) and back(-).
I only ever use this down steep hills...

I never use sport just seems all revs for the sake of it, I prefer to drive mine in Manual 99% of the time as it is manual gearbox with electro-mechanical shift

When in "S" mode you will also get a better throttle response

As said manual mode in DSG is much better. S mode does the same as the golf - pushes every gear to its max RPM which is just rubbish as the power has ran out before it gets there!
