Next week i'll be the proud half owner of a 6N2 1.4 TDI PD
I say half because it will be used mainly by my dad for work use but i'm putting some money towards it so I can use it for long journeys and on the weekends. The price of fuel these days is just getting crazy and my Gti is getting pretty expensive to run so the little TDI is going to be a really good car for me to use.
We are picking it up on the weekend from Manchester so I wont post any pictures until its sitting on the drive.
Its a light blue 5 door SE with 86K on the clock, Full VWSH, immaculate paintwork and has clearly been well looked after by the previous 2 owners.
As my Dad is going to be using it 70% of the time I wont be kitting it out much, I would love to go mad with it but he's not exactly going to be too happy with me if I start changing things too much.
The paintwork is amazing so i'll be just doing a few subtle changes to the exterior such as pressed plates, aero wipers, headlight protectors maybe a HID kit.
Got a few questions about the engine if anyone can help me?
I will be getting it re-mapped because it will give me extra power for when I drive it and better fuel economy for the old man when he's pottering to work doing 40mph

I doubt he would even notice the extra power.
Just wanted to know what Air filter people go for on the TDI? I pressume its best to stick with a panel filter and maybe improve the air flow to the air box but i'm not sure what to go for???
The other question I have is can the PD130 or PD160 air intake be fitted to the Polo/Lupo?
I know from experience that they can make a big difference to performance but I dont know if it can be fitted on the little Polo?
Any help would be appreciated
I'll hopefully get some pics up of the TDI this weekend
Ben,

Cheers mate, i'm really looking forward to driving it on Friday.
It's not going to have anywhere near the acceleration of the GTI but it should go really well on the hills.
haha BMC would be nice but I think i'll stick to a panel filter, my dad would go mental seeing the BMC under bonnet
i'll get some more pics up on the weekend, I think a picture next to the GTI has to be done

congrats ben! Welcome to the TDI club!
Get angel tuning to do your remap. They did mine nearly 2 years ago and car has been running sweet ever since. Plus they come to you anywhere in the UK
As for air filters, you wont need an aftermarket one. I had the k&n filter on there and it was so annoying, I ripped it out, put back in the standard filter and car sounded better and drove better!
Just some other general advice, Try to service the car every 6 months or 6000 miles. make sure you ONLY use the castrol 50501 oil. Thats what i do and you wont have any problems :

Nice buy mate. TDI's rock! I'm going for a revo remap as soon as I can get a sat off work. I was told to leave the air filter alone as it's all forced air or somethIng....?? : )

Have you ever had yours on the rollers to see what its putting out, I hear most re-maps for the 1.4 TDI PD range from a 20-25bhp increase in power.
Cheers for the heads up about the filter too, i'll just stick to the original one then if its best and maybe see if I can improve the air flow slightly.
The car has just been serviced by the garage but i'm pretty hot when it comes to getting them done, I get the oil in my GTI changed every 3K so 6K sounds fine for the TDI, i'll keep a look out for the Castrol 50501 oil when its due

Cheers Fella

i'm looking forward to the torque.
I hear nothing but good things about the Revo re-maps, they quote a power figure of 103bhp after the re-map with shed loads of torque

I'm quite interested in the little Revo tuning box because ideally I would like the extra power to be plug & play rather than permanent, just because my old man is using the car too.
Let us know how you get on with your re-map mate

Ben I havent put it on rollers, but i had a scangauge hooked up to my car and it was reading 111BHP. Which is about right because angel tuning said it will be +35bhp after the remap

For them to read the ECU, they used the vagcom port. They sent the ECU data back to their head office via their laptop and then the clever nerds there edited all the data, sent it back to the laptop and rwrite the file back onto the ECU. There was a problem writing the file back to the ECU through the Vagcom Port, so the guy took my ECU out, plugged in another device and wrote it back on.
Alltogether around 2 hours.

Sounds good mate, i'm picking up the car tonight so i'll be looking to get it re-mapped in the next week or so.
They are said to improve the economy too in terms of MPG if you drive it like an old man (like my dad will).
I'll just have to wait for Angel to get back to me now with a price

Wicked!

im getting around 55mpg, thats is me with a huge subwoofer box in the back and once a week i will take the car to like 4000 rpm to clear any sitting dust and smoke in the exhaust.
