fitting a boot spoiler?

hello all, new member here, im Jay

nice to meet you all !!

The website looks great by the way with plently of interesting stuff !

Ive recently bought a spoiler for my mk5 and was wondering how hard it is to fit. Ive read some posts with people fitting them themselves, so just wanted to know how difficult it really is ??
Any one got any good tips on how to do it?

Any info greatly appreciated,

Keep it std and sell the spoiler. They are not called by that name for nothing.

they're easy to fit if there's no wiring to do. Clean the area thoroughly then stick with some 3M mastik stuff (I can find the name for you) or anything else that has been recommended. Tape the top of the spoiler to the roof to stop it sagging whilst it sets. It really is a piece if p1ss.

standard is not always best!

you can use some stuff called tiger seal, it is clear adisive stuff and it works a treat! use a cleaning agent to really clean the area to stick it to. use a non perminant board marker and draw round the spoiler on the car so that when you place the spoiler on the car it is in the correct position.

If it was not best, why would the car companies sell it like that.

Ok Jeff.
Any ideas of the improvements you get with a spoiler on a Polo?
Downforce preventing lift at high speed.
Drag therefore slowing the car reducing top end and fuel economy.
Or is it just Barry?
I dunno what do you think???

of course standard is not _always_ best.

everyone has their own tastes - and standard tries to hit the market in general. car companies don't waste valuable money trying to suit everyone's tastes.

So where are the priorities then acceleration, stopping power, handling, comfort.
What real benefits do you get from a spoiler??

As much as spoilers are useless on cars smaller than a Golf, they are only of any use if the car is designed to generate downforce to start with (Hint - nothing like a polo, golf, focus, etc)

BUT, for cosmetic reasons, only the std ones look any good, and as it is a VW spoiler you are fitting it will keep the lines of the car so will suit it and may well look the part (although I still would not buy an extra one personally).
