What size 18's will fit, width, et? tyre size?

As above! Got an option on some Audi A3 7.5x18' splits 5x112 et 54 (adapters size?) They already have pilot sports 225 40 18's on!

215 35 18 Would be a pretty good compromise.
225 40 18 is much too big for a Polo, that 's a Golf size. In fact if they are decent brand tyres you'd probably get a good price for them on ebay or the forums.

20mm PCD adapters would bring the offset down to 34mm. Get the very best ones you can - usually cost about £200 + for a good set and MAKE SURE they are hubcentric 57.1mm.
I have used these before on my Golf, but if I'm honest, unless the wheels your looking at are extremely special, then go for a 5x100 set of rims. Much less expensive and less hassle.
