Pulled up outside work today and heard this new (?) noise coming from the engine, it was like a sort of tapping noise like a really small deisel engine, car was well warm, and had just been driven at a mix of slow traffic and not hard but quite hard for about 1.5 hours (forgot my laptop and had to go home to get it - idiot).

Recently filled it up with oil (about 400ml) as it flashed up a warning light yesterday. I'm sure it's nothing but if anyone else has heard this on a 6R GTI with about 3.5k on the clock, then let me know. If I hear it again I'll call my dealer and take it in because I've never heard it before.

They do tap a bit as direct injection and chain driven mine tapps when you first start in the morn as the chain tensioner fills with oil dont worry unless its really loud

Yes, would tend to agree, have heard noisy injectors on quite a few direct injection engines.
