You should always buy new projectors when buying HID's.
Keep them at the lowest setting

HIDs reached the news yesterday, I hate the attention they are currently getting.
I haven't adjusted mine merely fitted them, and I don't have any problems with oncoming traffic flashing me. I've spoken to mates who say they're bright but not dazzling (which is a relief!). Maybe down to the height of my car also.

There's nothing wrong with HIDs. It's HIDs that are in reflector housings that are the problem. Get projector lenses or stick with halogens.

Yeh I know, but in the pubic eye the HIDs across the board are being targeted. It's only the dazzling ones (retro fit kits in reflector headlights) which will be penalised though.

Tim, My post was targeted at the OP. He'd figure out why he was getting flashed if he was in the shoes of the guy on the other side of the road.
I agree with you though. HIDs in projectors may be slightly dazzling if the car is coming up a hill for example, but they're okay on flat roads. The majority of HIDs in refelctor housings just dazzle oncoming traffic. Some reflectors aren't too bad, but the ones in the 9n / 9n3 are horrendous (can't speak about lowered cars though). They're infinitely worse on flat roads than projectors on a hill.

I agree with most of what has been said, I have a car with HIDs - factory fitted so in projector units and a car that I wish had HIDs reflector lights - ie Polo 9N. One thing is, I feel, that projector lights all do cause a bit of "flash" and that might seem to do seen as dazzle - there are a surprising(to me) number of cars with projector lights (a lot of older Puntos for instance) so maybe some of the bad press comes from them and people thinking "bloodly HIDs" and as said already, the real baddies the dummies with HIDs in reflector lights - oh and the other dummies with 100watt halogen bulbs - naughty naughty.
I suppose someone saw that news (?) article about the in-town taxi driver that was really concerned about the danger of HIDs - well they complain about everything and then charge you for giving you the benifit of that advice!
Trouble is, HID units are more energy efficient than filament bulbs - and we need to be aiming for making cars more energy efficient - and they do light up the road better for the driver.
