Garage reset ECU (I think) now idle problems?

Hi,

I've recently had a new EGR Valve replaced in my 52 Plate 1.2 12v polo. The emissions light kept coming back on and the garage said the ECU could be having problems accepting the new valve so (I think) they reset the ECU in the car. That was Friday and since then when it's been started it's idle needle goes up and down before eventually cutting out. I need to rev the car and keep idle up in the 3000 mark for a few seconds before it'll sort of settle down again enough for me to be able to drive. The garage did tell me at the time the ECU will need to re-learn it's values? I'm wondering if I need to take it back to the garage as it's still idling rough and I'm a bit scared to take it out on the road when stopping at traffic lights etc. in case it dies out on me! I've taken it out on a couple of trips so far - one for 40 miles down the motorway to try and sort it out but as soon as I turn the car off and on again, it's back to the rough idling at start up. Any help appreciated. I'm a complete novice with cars - female...yes!!!

I am no expert with VW's but with the fords i have owned when the ecu has been reset it needed to be run at 2000revs for about 5 minutes then taken for a 20 minute drive of normal 30/40mph driving, i am sure someone can help you but it should be returned to the garage if you are not happy.

I'm pretty sure 52 Plate will Be a 9n rather than a 6n or 6n2

I'll move this to the correct section

The ECU will relearn its values almost instantly.

They need to run the diagnostics again as something definately isnt right. Advise them to also run a Throttle Body Alignment on the car.
