The wife's new 1.4 SEL DSG in flash red.

Took delivery of the wife’s new VW Polo 6R 1.4 SEL DSG last week, so with the nice weather this weekend, thought i’d give her a good clean up. Sorry not much talk, thought id let the photos do the talking.

Again, we had asked the supplying dealer to not prep the car, so all that was doe was remove the transport sheets, and check the paint for serious damage / dents.

Onto the process of it's first clean :D

Snow foamed and left to dwell for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, i went round the door shuts, badges, grills etc with a soft detail brush and Megs APC.

Rinsed then Iron –X applied to all paint and wheel surfaces (just a few marks not much).

Sprayed with Tardis and wiped with a microfiber towel. Clay not needed as the car has only done less than a 100 miles and the Iron-X and Tardis pretty much brought everything off.

Washed TBM with megs shampoo and dried with waffle drying towels.

Paint wasn’t too bad but there were a few light marks so out with the DA and Menzerna Final Finish on a SFX blue fine finishing pad, just a couple of passes required. Worked a treat.

Paintwork sealed with 2 coats of R222 Carnauba hard wax (as I had a brand new tub of this) and buffed to a glass finish. Wheels sealed with Poorboys wheel sealant. Plastics dressed with Aerospace 303.Tyres with Megs Endurance Gel.

Interior just needed a quick hoover and wipe down with a damp microfibre towel.

Onto the photos, hope you like.

And the bit I’m really proud of, the genuine VW 9W7 bluetooth kit that you can't order in the UK and that VW said would not fit in the Polo. Its the same unit as in my Scirocco, and puchased as a complete kit from a spanish ebayer. Took me all of 1 hour to fit and code and works beautifully with both phones and the RCD-510 touch screen headunit.

Looks lovely mate.

Did it arrive in a poor state from the dealers then ? Seems like a mountain of work for an almost brand new car !!

My DSG gear stick is quite different with a horizontal handle. Also I have no vent in the dash on the passenger's side...

No not really, but as it was brand new, I wanted it perfect. Also, as I had spent 2 days 2 weeks earlier on my new Scirocco cleaning and prepping it, the wife had demanded I spend as much love and attention on hers as well

The car just had a few light swirls (probably from someone dusting or wiping the car down), but on Red in the full glare of the sun, they were noticeable.

Also, it should be noted that I am a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning cars (well a lot OCD really) :D

Looks sweet that mate! Might have to buy some of the products you've mentioned and give it a whirl on mine, when I finally get it! Is that the genuine VW exhaust tip you have added? Overall the car looks great and a good spec too! :)

I've got a genuine Ross Tech Hex+Can USB unit, but as the telephone unit is on the CAN bus, a standard Micro-Can should work. Can't guarantee that the eBay specials will work though (if that's what you have tried).

The new Polo isn't all CAN based like the Golfs, Sciroccos, Jettas etc, as some of it's computers are still K-line based, hence my HEX-CAN working perfectly.

Well yes and no. :D

It's not actually a VW item, it's an Audi one. I had purchased a set of twin Audi trims to go on my new Scirocco from EBay, but it was only later I'd realised that they were slightly too big, so I bought some Skoda Yeti ones that fitted perfectly.

It was after I'd finished cleaning the car I saw the box with the two Audi trims in and thought, hmmm, I wonder. To my surprise they were an exact (to the mm) fit and just tapped on. The don't have an ugly screw at the back but instead use 3 reverse facing claws inside the trim. It will slide down the pipe brut not back over it.

And the best thing, they only cost me £8.50 incl P&P from EBay. Result.

Alex,

It wasn't a trader I'm afriad. It was a chap that had bought them, never fitted them and then sold his Audi, so he stuck these on the bay.

Nice car and good luck with it. You obviously have too much spare time and have an OCD thing with taking pictures too
