are you sure it's the mkiv you want? I got my 16v with 26k on the clock for 4500. it's a v-plate. you'd struggle to find one above 5k!

maybe you want a mkv?

Well i was lookin at da mk5 gti but can't decide on the two.

the mkv's are a fair bit more expensive. they are more desirable! If 5k is your budget then spend 4 on a nice mkiv 16v, and a grand on stereo, alarm, wheels etc 8)

Personally i dont like the lights on the Mark 5. So I wouldn't buy one. I wish I had the 6N2, I just got the 6N, the 6N2 just looks so much more... refined. If thats a good word to use.

with 5k you can pickup a good mk4 with low miles.
a mk5 will also be in your budget but at that price for GTis will be dodgy high milers.
i think mk5 will be your best bet!

Cheers

I just picked up my 1999 T Reg 16v on saturday from a dealer in Manchester - they have quite a few Polo's in stock. 51k on the clock, stamped history and a few of the last owners bills.
Got 12 months RAC warranty on it and 12 months MOT.
I'm pretty impressed with the performance of it.. just done a return trek from Wirral to Worcester today (240miles)and it quite happily zoomed along at a steady 80mph.

If i'd had £7k as oppossed to the 4k i was prepared to spend there was a mint Polo GTI in stock at my local VW dealer.

Got a few small mechanical niggles to sort out and i'll be totally happy.
