This is a common problem with the 1.8T engine had to have my coil packs replaced when I had a Golf Mk4 GTI, but nothing to worry about.

Ohhh...... were you charged for the recal since it is not under manufacture warranty?
Should I be calling my dealership?

I was booked in for a service and MOT, when i got there I was told about the recall and they would need to check the part numbers on the coil packs, when I came back to the VW garage they had replaced them free of charge, I did as the question about it being free as the car is five years old and out of warranty and the service guy said its free as its an official vw recall.

Hmmm interesting! I wonder if this recall is for all the GTI's? Are the dealers supposed to call you about the recall?
Also, I have noticed the car has been hesitant when on Idle, sounds as if it will cut out but dunno if it is to with the coil pack?

Phoned VW and apparently the coilpack recoils have been for the r32 and mkv golf gti but according to him there has been no recall for my polo apart from the
gearbox oil change back in '08.
Would it be possible for you please pm me a scanned copy of the recall i.e. if they gave you a invoice etc
Thanks

Thanks for the heads up on this mate.
Did you happen to get any part numbers on an invoice or something? Might make it easier to check instead of trying to get anywhere with dealers. On a side note, my car was in a couple of months ago for a few things and they never mentioned it to me, so maybe it's a recent thing? Dealers don't all know about it yet?

Doesn't sound like a coil pack problem to me mate, unless you've noticed a loss of power as well? Last time I blew a coil pack I literally blew the top off it

, had the engine management light on, lost all power etc. Sounds more like an idle control valve/throttle position sensor or something like that maybe?

The recall was on a batch of coils used on some 1.8t engines many of the 2.0t mainly in the mk5 golf gti and some of the 3.2v6s.
Best way to find out if your car was fitted with the recalled coil packs is to call your local dealer with your VIN number and they will be able to tell you if your car is covered by the recall.

Hi mate, sorry cant scan it, theres not much info on the invoice to be honest, no prices or part numbers, it just says
WCOVER
Recall 28F5
Free of Charge Under Warranty
Thats it!
