Hello all
i am very new to the VW scene and looking for a nice tidy runabout i like the look of the 2000 - 2001 models and looking for a 1.4 I have been looking and have seen it seems to be 2 different engines in the 1.4 8v and 16v...
Can anybody give me the pros and cons to them both please..?
Cheers

Re: Mk V 6n2 1.4
There is in fact three variants
1.4 8V
1.4 16V 75bhp
1.4 16V 100bhp
The best all rounder is the 75bhp. Its got far better acceleration compared to the 8V and often came with S/SE trim spec so you get electric windows, central locking an a few other bits as standard compared to the normal E trim on the 8V models in most cases
The 100bhp was a sporty model second to the GTI - great car, but rare and reasonably expensive to tax and insure
The 8v is just a normal 1.4 with 8 valves. Not particularly quick, but does ok for a town car if thats what you are looking for.

Re: Mk V 6n2 1.4
Thanks for the great info there...
I have found a nice green 1.4 8v. 1 owner from new 40k on the clock.
I have got a few little things i would like to do... Like it lowered from what im told coilovers would be best on a set D90's...
How to actually get to this stage i am sure off. I know will need hub adapters but unsure on what size to get and also what width to get with the wheels as i know they come in 6j, 7j and 8j
I dont want it to be stupily low but would like a nice stance...
If somebody could point me in the right direction that would be great.
Cheers
