So I just bought a cheapo 409.1 lead off of ebay, an it plugs in fine etc.
i downloaded vcds lite and the 10.6.4 version and they both come up with this error when i try to connect to the port.
I wonder if anyone could tell me what i am doing wrong
I am also running windows 7 64x on my labtop and the lead is a usb lead.
thanks

i think its a windows 7 issue mate with the old version of vagcom, there is a fix i beleive but ive not needed to use it as i still run xp, plus ive got a proper licensed cable now, used to have a serial one which i still use for remote operated windows on certain vag motors,
try and borrow a mates laptop with xp on if possible to test if it is a compatibility issue

nah its because i saw he'd put he bought a 409.1 lead and assumed this was the version of vagcom he was having the issue with..... Skim read fail lol (this version being the one where i thought it was a windows 7 compatibility issue as i had seen it crop up a while back on a passat forum i'm on)
now noticed the version of vcds and im now thinking that it may be the cable which may not be compatible as it was made for 409.1

On windows 7.
What worked for me was using the older version 311.2
Run it in compatibility mode for windows xp
and make sure you set the com port in device manager for your lead between 1-4
Then open vagcom and select the right port.
It should then work.
PM if you need any help!
