Very strange door lock issue..

Hi guys, bought this polo on behalf of a friend last week- today i discovered this:
The actual lock barrel simply pulls out of the door mechanism- it looks live the barrel has been angle grinded down or somewhat? I was thinking either the previous owner had lost the keys or something.
Any ideas
