Autoexpress speculation again. Still no confirmation of a Polo R existing.
Does anyone think this is actually going to happen? I would love to change my order for one of these if it was only round the corner.

I read this a few days ago and there been nothing else on the spy shot of the polo from any other source, so is it really a polo r disguised as a gti, how do they know under the gfi body is a polo r? I'd like a bit more proof, at least when there was a sighting of the Audi s1 disguised as a tfsi it do have twin tail pipes, that gave it away a tad more that it wasn't just an a1 tfsi, so is this really a polo r in testing, as much as I want it to Be as I'll be getting one if it is, but I think we need a bit more evidence that it is a polo r than one source saying it is, looks like a great car if it happens though an I hope it does, what's everyone else's view on this?

Recent article released down under says that it's a very slim chance of being released, they are working on the 1.6 litre turbo-motor for homologation rules regarding the WRC next year, this could be a development mule for that motor but, based on certain factors including:
-Same brake package as GTI, not likely to be carried over onto an R
-no hint of a bigger intercooler
-Same rear suspension area visible behind right rear wheel
The Mk4 R32 was substantially different and the wheel base slightly different also. If you're upgrading to the rumoured haldex AWD setup (which, based on the platfrom similarities, would be a carry-over of the Mk4 R32 most likely) the position of the brakes changes and grows to a 330mm front rotor which would fill the front wheels quite a bit more. The gti brakes are inadequate as standard, I highly doubt that doing quite a bit of vehicle testing myself, you would want a substandard setup on the stock car, being fitted to a supposed much higher performance vehicle.
My thoughts? I'd say it's just a 1.6 turbo mule, which is more likely to be the model updated Polo GTi, similar as to the Mk4 Golf GTI which got an engine replacement (well, cylinder head relpacement and new software) halfway through it's model life. Watch teh price of our twincharged GTI's depreciate now!

I'm afraid it's not the r line we are talking about, the r line is a range of cosmetic add PBS that can be added to any polo with any engine size, there is a lot of speculation about a real polo r coming out with a 1.6 tfsi engine and all wheel drive, but that's just what it seems to be speculation, untill Autoexpress claimed to have seen a polo t been tested but dressed up as a gti, so we was questioning the fact as to weather it was a real polo r in testing, which I hope it is but all we can do it see,
