Strange Indicator

Hi guys, noticed a little niggle today. My left indicator, the first few 'tick tocks' are at the normal speed. But after 3 or 4 it starts ticktock'ing like theres no tomorrow and the rate increases drastically. The green arrow above the MDI also flashes a lot faster after 3 or 4 flashes, but the indicators themselves on the outside of the car flash at the normal rate. Most of the time I just tap the stalk for the 3 flashes when changing lanes and turning corners etc, but today when I was indicating for a prolonged time I noticed this. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Have you upgraded any of the bulbs?

Hi Steve, I've upgraded the headlights and sidelights with Phillips Blue Vision Ultra bulbs. I've had them in about a month now and I've not noticed any funny shenanigans with the indicators until today!

I had the same problem. I haven't upgraded any of the bulbs, but the problem turned out to be a loose connection in one of the clusters. Got the cluster replaced under warranty and it's been fine since. As far as I can tell, the faster ticking is a throwback to the old days when there were simpler indicator circuits where a blown bulb affected the resistance in the circuit and caused the lights to flash faster. Presumably it is for the people who are used to this behaviour as an extra indication one of the lights is out.

best thing to do is spray abit of penny oil [WD40] onto the the metal connectors just makes sure no corrosion occurs and you get a good connection.
