Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
Hi Guys,
I own a VW 1.4 Polo GTI DSG which hasn't come with no mfsw controls. It has an RNS510 fitted from a garage.
I've been scouring the interwebs looking for specific controls for my steering wheel but can't seem to find any.
My question is, do I need to find specific controls for my steering wheel or would say Golf R mfsw controls that actually fit my steering wheel work?
Would there HAVE to be coding done or is it possible some functions will work without?
And lastly has anyone from the UK had this done by a dealer or garage? My main issue is not being able to find the parts.
Cheres guys.

Any Golf 6/Polo 6R MFSW will work.
Coding is done as described in the 1st post of the topic.

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
I've been able to install the two extra wires pretty easily with few tricks:
- I took the LIN bus from driver's door connector (T28a, pin16), which is more more easy to reach, instead of connector T73b, pin 17.
- I used fast electric connectors instead of soldering.
I've also made an important discovery about the airbag wiring loom.
Its code changes depending on the year of your Polo (to be more precise, depending on the version of connector ring and steering colum switch which is related to the car's production date).
This is how it works:
- 5K0971584A for Polo made till 16-05-2011;
- 5K0971584C for Polo made from 16-05-2011 to 23-07-2012;
- 5K0971584D for Polo made from 23-07-2012 onward.
I have a question:
What happens if my steering column switch already has MFA buttons? Will they enter in conflict with the ones on the steering wheel? Or will they both work in parallel?

Yes, your problem is the airbag wiring loom! You need the wiring with the "A" at the end or you need to install a newer connector ring with a new steering column switch compatible with the airbag wiring you have.dsorinn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2016 8:07 am Hey guys,
I just fitted a highline steering wheel with MFSW but I have a problem. [...] my BC buttons don't work.[...]
Could it be the slip ring (my polo is the first generation, 2009-2010) or the airbag wiring ? my airbag wiring has a "D" at the end instead of "A" and the slip ring has an "E" at the end. The steering wheel is made by TRW in 2016, the same with the wiring.

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
Found this after searching a lot.
it seems Chinese locale has such flat bottom steering wheel in golf and polo for some time (3 year old youtube video).

This is how you (should) puncture the dimples in back of steering to take off the airbag

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
You are right iichel.
Videos are from Golf. I could not find video of Polo.
However here is link to photo.
http://www.vw.com.cn/content/dam/vw-ngw ... ed/img.jpg
It is from cross polo. Again this does not have paddles. But i think with automatic cross polo ,there could be option for paddles.
Chinese local has 1.4 Manual, Automatic and 1.6 Automatic options.

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
Hello
I am planning to change my steering wheel tomorrow.
can someone tell me if these parts are the right one, the steering wheel fit and my airbag also but do i have the right cable and slip ring.
cable
5K0.971.584C
slip ring
6Q0 953 503 EC
Also the +12v cable i can put it to the light switch or the contact switched fuse box, i have an auto light switch(cable form iichell) doe someone know the right pin number?
And are there differences except the place of the cable?
Thanks for youre time.

Great guide, works perfectly
As mentioned, Linbus can be taken from T28a/16 from the door connector, on RHD cars too.

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
WOW!!! That's a LOT of work! But the result its just amazing! Fine job!
I've a question to make since you're the specialist:
I thought it was easy but after seeing your work I got the notion that this is very difficult after all !!!
I've a SEAT IBIZA 6L1 1.2 Petrol (2004) from factory the car do not bring any steering wheel with audio controls, any multifunctions, no onboard computer, nothing really.
Because of the bad shap of my origin steering wheel, recently I bought another one from the IBIZA Sport 2006 and the airbag of course ... everything runs fine except the audio controls, obviously. I you do not mind, i've some questions about it
- Can I Use your steps to complete my project?
- it's possible to put my audio controls working with my 2 DIN Android Auto Radio with my adapater from CTSST002.2 Steering Wheel Control interface??!
- Do you think I still no have enough parts to complete this project ?!
- What's really missing me here?
Already tired for not getting any help from some eletric workshops, the SEAT dealer also can't help me, the advice was get a new car...
Hope can understand me and receive some help for this matter, thanks!
Best Regards
Vasco.

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
hai there
can anyone help me out with the following:
I did the same thing as described before in the story before, but I have a mfsw with cruise control. I have changed the blinker handle from a cruise control with one without cruise controle because mine mfsw has it on the switches on the steering wheel.
But when I'm trying to activate it whgile driving I get no response on my dash through a green light that it is activated.
Can anyopne help me out with this

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
Hello togther,
sorry for activating this old thread with my first post. But I´m truely desparate.
I´m from Germany and I drive a Skoda Rapid Spaceback from early 2015. This car is very similar to the Polo 6r.
First, thank you for this very good manual in the first post. It´s nearly the same for my car. Only the pins at the slip ring are different, on the BMC it is also Pin17 for the Lin Bus.
I´ve got the circuit diagram for the car so this isn´t the problem.
I had a normal steering wheel without buttons, so I retrofitted a sport steering wheel with buttons (565064241B CXA) and changed the airbag wiring to 3V0971584A.
I retrofitted the two new wires, one to the BMC (6R0937087)T73b Pin17 and the other to the fuse box according to the circuit diagram.
I coded it with the OBDeleven Adapter in Pro Version. For this I changed in the adress 09 Byte 9 Bit 3 to "MFSW installed"
Now I have a very strange situation:
The lights of the buttons do work.
If i use the right rotary knob by pulling it up or down, the volume gets louder. If I press the rotary knob the volume gets quiter.
If I longpress the left rotary knob the volume gets louder one digit. Than I have to longpress again. If I immediatly shortpress the left knob after the longpress the volume gets one digit quieter.
That´s all. All the other buttons don´t work.
I thought rather it works or not, but this "half state" is very strange.
I would be very thankful if anyone has an idea what the failure could be and would help me out.
Thank you very very much in advane and enjoy th christmas days.
Greetings from Germany

Re: 6R - Multifunction Steering Wheel Retrofit
Hello together,
if anyone will have the same problem as I mentioned in the post before:
If you use the wrong buttons you will get effects as I described above. And there are a lot of different buttons/numbers out there.
In my new steering wheel were the buttons 3V0919719A - with them it didn´t work as described.
I also tested buttns 5E0919719E - the same problem as with the ohter buttons.
The right buttons for the Skoda Rapid Spaceback till 05/2015 are 5E0919719F - with them now everthing works fine.
I just wanted to write my experience down, so anyone with the same problem doesn´t need to search as long as I did.
Greetings and a happy new year.
