Power steering Problem

Hi chaps

I have a 2006 polo 1.4 stdi 70.
I recently did it up from a CAT D where it had been hit on the front near side, smashing the electrical connectors off the power steering pump. So I replaced the pump and I replaced the connectors and it still doesn’t work.
I don’t really want to take it to the main dealer incase they rip me off.

I am reasonably good with electronics but by no means an expert.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as I can’t get it MOT'ed with out the PS working.

Oh also there is a steering wheel symbol on the dash warning lights.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Lando

Would be worth plugging it into a diagnostics and checking for fault codes! With it suffering damage, this could have been logged by ECU and not activating PAS.

Sounds daft, but maybe it's just a fuse? Easily overlooked.

Thanks for the advice

Ive had it plugged in to a diagnostic and it says there is a communication error when he try’s to connect directly to the PS ECU and when he does a whole vehicle scan it give the following fault codes:

01309 Power Steering ECU J500

And also:

017911 Load Signal From DF Alternator terminal signal incorrect
018266 Load Signal From Engine
001596 Fresh Air Blower V154

There was also a blown fuse on top of the battery that i had missed, (thought it was a buzz bar! ).
But still nothing.

Again, any ideas would be most appreciated.

I can have a look at college on Friday at the autodata and see how the system works on the polo. Generally though, you have information shared from sensors between the different ecu's! I would expect a broken wire between the main ecu and the PS ecu! Double check wiring around where damage occurred, then next step would be to check voltages ps ecu and main ecu!

Sounds like the alternator sense wire is snapped. When you turn the ignition on (but haven't started the engine), does the battery idiot-lamp light up in the cluster?

I'd ignore the V154 error for now. In the grand scheme of things, it's not important at all. Means the recirculating flap isn't working right. Not really a major concern right now.

I'd come down and give you a hand if you were a little bit closer :(

Hi Ash

ok cool ill try and figure out weather any wires have snapped on the alternator. the dash lights up like a chrismas tree when the ignition is on without the engine started, the check engine light stays on until you start the engine, the power steering light stays on all the time and the battery light also stays on until the engine is started.
thanks for your help.
