HU Installation

Hello and merry christmas everyone! :D

I have been bought a aftermarket HU for Christmas, but after reading around it seems a may need additional wiring to get it working correctly aswell as something for the aerial? It's a Kenwood DAB4551U and the car is a 2007 Polo GTI. The wiring loom I got with the HU is just the plug that goes into the back of the HU and a big black block plug type thingy

Never actually installed a HU by myself so any help is appreciated, does anyone know if Halfords have the removal tools for the standard stereos?

Oh also..it has iphone support, do I need to buy the proper USB cable or can I just use the standard white iPhone lead?

Go to your local halfords they should be able to sort you out with everything.. Probably install it too but for a price..

Or head down to your local car audio store and they might do it cheaper, well my local one does anyways

Nice one, wonder if they are open tomorrow!

Is this what I need? http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.asp ... 75-adaptor Will have to take a trip to VW anyway to get a cubby hole for under the HU

The loom on the HU has the red/yellow wires than can be switched via bullet adapters, maybe I just need to swap these?

Yes you will need to swop over wires otherwise the head unit won't turn on with the ignition

Should be able to get everything you need from halfords or eBay :) there you go I said it,

It's the red n yellow wires that need swilling over

Might need to cut the originals and bullet connect them if they haven't already been done

hi sorry again, but had a quick look at mine the other day. saw the red and yellow wires (battery and ignition). both bullet connected, did you mean putting them like, red into yellow, yellow into red etc? or was i a complete numpty and did it wrong haha. because it didnt work. just kept on turning on by itself, then having to manualy turning it on still :S im confused a little.

Yes you need to switch them over in the aftermarket connector you have

Thats what I had to do and now it works fine, keeps memory etc :)
